DISASTER MANAGEMENT

Disasters are increasingly at the forefront of global attention. In the face of devastating losses the heartening response of many individuals, organizations and governments is to provide rescue. KIDZ CAMPS-ministering to children affected by crisis

Feb20-March 2, 2012 — Seminar Cost $300

Children often are portrayed as highly resilient. Yet, experts say that, of all people affected by disaster, children are among the most emotionally vulnerable. Research shows that children need intervention following a disaster to reduce trauma-related symptoms. In 2003 the Mississippi Center for Disease Control and Prevention did a multi-state evaluation of the effectiveness of a children’s camp, called Camp Noah, following disaster. Their results indicated that after attending camp, “examples of behavioral and symptom changes included children being calmer, better able to speak about what happened to them, sleeping through the night, and having stopped regressive behaviors. The second week of this seminar will be a camp held in a Mexican Colonia!

DISASTER RESPONSE LEADERSHIP SKILLS
